On a recent road trip to Oregon I reminded myself why we go through the palaver of loading bikes and kit into a vehicle and putting up with traffic, expensive fuel and rubbish food in order to ride our bikes somewhere different.

Even though, overall, the trails were not any more challenging than what we are blessed with at home, they were different and this difference bought about a sense of wonder and joy that was far out of proportion to the overall ‘rating’ of the trail.

Getting out and riding somewhere new is well worth the effort. You find new trails and meet new people and generally get a refreshed view of how good one’s trails are at home.
